Condition: HYPOGLYCEMIA (Low Blood Sugar)
SUGGESTED NUTRITION:
Pan 5X #964
3 per day. Support for pancreatic growth and repair. Has an effect on insulin regulation and output.

Livatrate #982
3 per day. Supports liver function and acts to control reconversion of glycogen into glucose for systemic distribution via the bloodstream. Prevents liver damage which is common in hypoglycemia.

Glyco Plex #970
3 per day. Potent vitamin B-complex gives needed endocrine support and synergistic enzyme response. Vitamin B2 and pantothenic acid are necessary to enable the liver to produce enzymes that in activate insulin. These act to regulate the amount of insulin allowed to enter the bloodstream in response to glucose content of the blood at any given time.

PATHOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS:
A state of hyperinsulinism - a defect in carbohydrate metabolism, the opposite of diabetes - wherein abnormally low blood sugar levels obtain with resultant severe symptomatology. Four major factors - malignancies of the pancreas, benign tumors of the pancreas, general hypertrophy of the gland without evident disease, and what is called "idiopathic" or functional hyperinsulinism where there is no anatomic change that can be detected - are the causative elements.

PHYSIOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS:
Functional or idiopathic hyperinsulinism is our basic concern. The most common cause of this type is excessive intake of refined sugars, caffeine, emotional stress or a combination of these factors with sugar and caffeine compounded in their effects through a condition of stress. The Isles of Langerhans in the pancreas are overstimulated by constant bombardment of refined sugar and caffeine producing greater amounts of insulin than required to metabolize the circulating blood sugar, thus keeping blood sugar levels lower than normal except for a very short time after ingestion of food. Eventually any sugar, good, bad, or indifferent, will trigger the pancreas to secrete excessive amounts of insulin. The liver is also heavily involved in this mechanism as it controls reconversion of stored glycogen into glucose for distribution in the blood stream. In addition, all the endocrine glands are linked in a dynamic balance to compensate for any deviation of blood sugar levels so that the brain and nervous system are never for an instant deprived of necessary amounts of blood sugar needed for their normal activity. This balance is upset by stress and symptoms such as anxiety, irritability, fear, sweating, flushing or pallor, numbness, chills, headaches, dizziness, weakness and faintness are common. However, the most obvious symptoms are excessive hunger just about all the time and great fatigue and weakness. Actually, a condition of hypoglycemia can aggravate any symptom in any part of the body.

TREATMENT:
An absolute must: eliminate all concentrated carbohydrates as refined sugars, etc., and even all natural sugars until the condition is under control. No food or drink containing caffeine can be allowed. The combination of refined sugar and caffeine is particularly devastating and cannot be tolerated. Efforts must also be made to reduce or eliminate all stress and in particular emotional stress. The diet must be natural, fresh and at least 50 percent raw. It should consist of meat, fish, eggs, cheese, fowl, and wild game if desired. Fresh vegetables, especially organically-grown and raw, are most desirable. Eat three meals a day with a protein snack between meals. This really adds up to six meals a day, each one about medium in amount with no overeating at any time. The hypoglycemic must have food every two hours during the waking day. Concentrated natural supplements are essential in all cases, especially raw glandular extracts.
