| PATHOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS: |
| Inflammation of the gums characterized by swelling, redness, change of normal contours,
and a tendency to bleed. |
| PHYSIOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS: |
| The condition may be either acute or chronic with remissions and exacerbations. Pockets
may form in the gums from tissue swelling and food impaction but rarely is the alveolar process involved. Improper dental hygiene, malocclusion,
improperly fitted dentures or a generalized stomatitis associated with mouth and pharyngeal infections are basic etiological factors. In many
cases, the condition is associated with hypovitaminosis, metallic poisoning, blood dyscrasias, endocrine disturbances or any of the chronic degenerative diseases. |
| TREATMENT: |
| Removal of the etiological factors must be the first step in correcting this condition.
A general nutritional buildup is essential. Control the infectious process with massive amounts of vitamin C with bioflavonoids. Vitamins A and D
as well as natural calcium and other minerals, must be part of a regular therapeutic nutritional program. |
